First, a little background. I have a Pi 4 which I use as a Plex server and it works great. It boots right up into the desktop (aka PIXEL?) and autoruns Plex. I Love it.
I also found that I love RetroPie, but unfortunately I found that RetroPie works as a standalone OS and can't run on top of Bullseye/Raspbian/PiOS, so I had to choose the Plex server over RetroPie on the Pi 4 until the new Pi 5 came out. I bought the new Pi 5 and installed Bookworm so I could dedicate my Pi 4 to RetroPie, and the Pi 5 would become the new Plex server, then it occurred to me...
Can I boot my Pi 5 so it boots into the desktop on HDMI-1 and autorun the Plex server as before, while it simultaneously autoruns EmulationStation/RetroArch on HDMI-2?
The ultimate goal here is that I switch to HDMI-1 and have a desktop computer running Plex in the background, then switch to HDMI2 and pick up the controller to play old Nintendo games... all on the same Pi5.
RetroPie utilizes EmulationStation for a nice GUI that allows you to bluetooth connect a PS5 controller and toggle between emulator systems with ease. I like that GUI because otherwise it would be annoying to have to manually open each emulator in the desktop every time I want to play. Even then I don't think the controller would connect.
The Problem:
EmulationStation/RetroArch doesn't seem to work on Bookworm/PiOS Desktop... or does it? Is there something I can do to get it to work... AND autoboot onto HDMI-2?
I'm out of my depth here. I'd hate to go back to Plan A and run 2 Pi's with 2 power cords. Please help Pi community gurus!
